Electric Thermal Storage Program

If a Northeastern REMC customer currently heats their home with electricity, Northeastern offers a way to save over 25 percent on the monthly space and water heating bills!

How ETS works:
An ETS unit stores electricity as heat during our low-demand / off-peak times of day. This heat is gathered and stored in bricks inside an attractive, freestanding heating unit installed in your home. During high-demand hours your room is heated comfortably using only this stored heat.

Incentives:
Customers installing the ETS unit will be eligible for a special discounted electric rate on space and water heating. Northeastern’s current residential rate averages 7.7 cents per kilowatthour. Under the conditions of this program, customers qualify for a 5.6 cents per kwh electric rate. For any new installation of an ETS unit in Northeastern’s service territory, Northeastern will rebate the homeowner $250. The rebate is payable upon completion as a $25 monthly credit on a customer's electric bill for 10 months. The special electric rate applies only to usage consumed by the ETS unit and water heater which are specially metered.

Advantages:

  • Realize substantial savings on your electric water heating.
  • Enjoy safe, comfortable heat, even without ductwork!
  • Reduce your monthly space and water heating bills by about 25 percent.
  • It’s much cleaner and safer than burning wood or propane.
  • The ETS unit is easy to install in almost any room of the house.
  • Whole house units are available.
