Geothermal Heating & Cooling

More and more Northeastern REMC customers are taking advantage of the free heat and air conditioning available in their own backyards. Just a few feet below the surface, the temperature of the earth remains constant.

A geothermal cooling and heating system uses this free energy to provide total comfort, 365 days a year. Using just a small electric blower to circulate the energy throughout the home, the geothermal system keeps the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. No other system available today can match geothermal efficiency. Customers can save up to 30 percent on air conditioning, 60 percent on heating and as much as 50 percent on present water heating bills. And, there are no pilot lights or hazardous fumes, so you'll feel safe and secure.

Northeastern provides customers with rebates when installing a geothermal heating and cooling system. For any new installation of a geothermal unit in Northeastern’s service territory, we will rebate the homeowner $500 or $100 per ton of equipment size up to $1000, whichever is greater. The rebate is payable upon installation as a $50 credit on your electric bill over the appropriate number of months.

Geothermal customers may also qualify for a property tax credit each year. A special tax form must be obtained from the resident's county auditor's office and filed each year.
