Pre-Pay Electric Program
Have you ever wanted to have more control over how much you spend each month on electricity? If so, then Northeastern REMC has the flexibility you need!! Pre-paid Electric Service is our most flexible payment program, which puts the power in your hands. With no fees, deposits, or unexpected bills, you can budget for your electric usage in a way that is most convenient to you!
New Members: As a new member with Northeastern REMC, if you sign up for pre-paid service, your deposit is waived. You will be required to make an initial payment of $65.00 to activate your account, which covers your initial minimum requirement of $50.00 plus your one-time $15.00 membership fee.
Existing Members: If you are an existing member and convert to a pre-paid account, a minimum payment of $50.00 is required to start your account. 100% of your payments will credit to your pre-paid electric usage.
Disconnected for Non-payment: This is where Pre-Paid Billing really helps! For accounts disconnected for non-payment, a $50 payment is all that is required to establish your pre-paid account. Your past due amount is converted to debt recovery and will be paid down with every payment you make, giving you the ability to keep the lights on while simultaneously paying down your debt. Plus, any existing deposit on your account will be applied toward the debt recovery balance helping you get it paid off even quicker! After your pre-paid account is activated, any payments made will be split 50/50 between your current usage and debt recovery, after you are caught up 100% will go to electric usage.
You can make payments daily, weekly, monthly, or as often as you want– the choice is yours to make. As long as you maintain a credit or negative balance (ie: your account doesn’t go above $0), you will not be disconnected. But sometimes things happen, and we understand, so don't worry, there are no reconnecting fees or long waiting times for reconnecting if you forget to make a payment!
Here's how it will work: Your pre-paid meter is read each morning at 9 a.m. You will receive alerts through your online account notifications, by email, and/ text messages if your pre-paid balance is low. If you don't have enough money in your account to cover usage, (if your pre-paid balance is above $0) your meter will automatically disconnect at 10 a.m. If you are disconnected, all you need to do is get a minimum credit balance of $25.00 for your meter to reconnect automatically (keep in mind, you might need to pay more than $25 if you have any debt recovery split, and/or any positive balance carried over from the previous day’s usage)
*It is important to note that pre-paid accounts are not eligible for payment arrangements and do not receive paper bills. There is a maximum allowance of $1,000 in debt recovery. Still have questions? Contact our office.
