A group of employees from Northeastern REMC recently joined the United Way of Whitley County’s Day of Caring for the largest volunteer event in Whitley County.
This annual event promotes the value of volunteerism, increases awareness of local non-profit organizations and helps bring people together to accomplish good work throughout the county. Working together with the local community is one of the many ways co-ops stand out among other organizations.
This year, the team of nine spent the day at the Woodlands Center, part of Whitley County’s Council on Aging, located on the northwest side of Columbia City. Together, they built raised garden beds for seniors who enjoy gardening but may not have had a place to garden until now. This included a wheelchair accessible area so many seniors can use this new space. The team finished their day by steam-cleaning all of the chairs used in their dining area and banquet hall.
Overall, the day was a huge success in Whitley County. The NREMC team looks forward to days like these throughout the year when they can demonstrate care for community. After all, we’re not just connected by power lines, this is the community we share.
